A private online to-do list, with no sign-up
Most online to-do lists ask for your email before you can write the first task. Wise Owl doesn't. Open the page, press “Start free, no sign-up” and type. Your list lives in your browser, and nobody else can see it, not even us.

How to start, in ten seconds
- Open wiseowl.cat on your computer or your phone. There's nothing to install.
- Press Start free, no sign-up. The first time, Wise Owl asks you to accept cookies: they're what lets your browser keep your list.
- Type your first task and press Enter for the next one. Paste a Markdown checklist and every line becomes a task.
- Come back tomorrow in the same browser: wiseowl.cat takes you straight to your list, and whatever you didn't finish is on today's page, because unfinished tasks move to the next day on their own.
Private, because nothing leaves your browser
Without an account, your tasks are saved in your browser's local storage, on your device. They're never sent to our servers or anyone else's, so there's no account to break into and no database your list could leak from. We don't ask for your name or your email, because we don't need them.
That makes it a good fit for the things you'd rather keep to yourself, and for when you just want a list right now without creating yet another account. Nobody, us included, can read what you write.
What you get without an account
The list without an account isn't a demo or a trial. It's the full daily to-do list:
- A list for every day, with unfinished tasks moving to the next day automatically.
- Four states per task: done, to do, moved to the next day and won't do.
- Markdown checklists: paste one from a PR or a note, and each item becomes a task, done or to do.
- Drag and drop to reorder, and links in your tasks that open in a new tab.
- Keyboard first: Enter adds a task, Alt and the arrows move it, and dark mode follows your system.
- On a computer, bulk changes: move every unfinished task to tomorrow at once, or sort the list.
What to keep in mind
Keeping everything in your browser has a few consequences, and it's better to know them from the start:
- Your list is in this browser, on this device. Another browser, or your phone, won't see it.
- If you clear your browser's data, or use a private window, the list goes with it.
- There's one list. Boards, to keep work and home apart, come with an account.
- AI assistants like Claude or ChatGPT need an account to read your list: without one, it never leaves your browser.
When you want more, add an account
An account keeps your list on our servers, so it syncs between your laptop and your phone. It also gives you up to 10 boards and lets you connect Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor to your tasks.
You don't lose anything by starting without one: if you sign up later in the same browser, the tasks you already have move into your new account.
Is it really free?
Yes. Without an account, Wise Owl is free and will stay free: no trial that runs out, no card, no limit on days. You can use it for years without ever giving us an email address.
