NewWise Owl 3.1: a board for work, another for home

Jira tracks your team's work. Wise Owl tracks yours.

The daily to-do list for engineers who write the code, not the roadmap. Jot down the PR reviews, the flaky test and that “quick question” on Slack, then get back to work. Whatever you don't finish moves to tomorrow on its own.

No install, no account, no card. Without an account, your tasks never leave your browser.

Wise Owl
Boards come with an account
today

  • Review Laia's PR #482 (auth refactor)
  • Answer the “quick question” in #backend
  • Fix the flaky test in checkout.spec.ts
  • Write the RFC for the rate limiter
  • Rewrite the build system in Rust
  • Keep an eye on the 5 pm deploy
Go ahead, click the boxes and switch boards (Alt + 1…3 works too). Nothing here is saved.
  • No backlog
  • No sprints
  • No story points
  • No setup

Just your list for today.

Sound familiar?

Your real workday doesn't fit in a ticket

  • “So, what did you do yesterday?”

Standup starts in two minutes and your mind goes blank. In Wise Owl, yesterday is one click away: read it out and you're done.

  • Forty tickets, seven real things

Jira has the epics. Your day has code reviews, replies, a deploy to keep an eye on and a bug nobody filed. That's what goes in Wise Owl.

  • Pinged mid-flow. Again.

Write the interruption down in two seconds and go back to what you were doing. The list remembers, so your head doesn't have to.

NewBoards

Work stays at work. Home gets a list of its own.

With an account, keep up to 10 boards side by side: one for work, one for home, one for that side project you swear you'll ship. Each one is a full list with its own days, and a tab above the date takes you there.

With an account

Boards are part of an account, and an account is free for now.

  1. Alt1Work2 open tasks today
  2. Alt2Home3 open tasks today
  3. Alt3Side project1 open task today
  • Each one, a whole list

Every board has its own days, its own progress and its own carry-over: what you didn't finish at work moves to tomorrow at work, not to your weekend.

  • One keystroke away

Jump between boards with the tabs or with Alt + 1…9 (⌥ on a Mac). Each tab says how many tasks are still open on it today. Create, rename, reorder and delete them right from the tabs.

  • Your assistant knows them too

Connected via MCP, your assistant reads all your boards unless you name one, and adds tasks to the one you say: “put the follow-ups of this PR on Work for tomorrow”.

NewMCP server

Your AI agent knows what's on your plate.

Wise Owl speaks MCP. Connect your assistant and ask in plain words: “what's still open this week?”, “add the follow-ups from this PR for tomorrow”, “plan my day”. It reads your days on every board, searches them, adds tasks, ticks them off and moves them, under the same rules as the app. And when you switch back to the tab, its changes are already there.

  2. Plan my day. Is anything stuck?
  3. wiseowl · get_day(date: "today")
  4. wiseowl · get_stale_tasks(min_times: 3)
  5. You have 6 open tasks today. “Write the RFC for the rate limiter” has been carried over 4 times: shall I split it into three smaller tasks for tomorrow and take it off today's list?
  6. Yes, do it.
  7. wiseowl · add_tasks(tasks: [{…}, {…}, {…}])
  8. wiseowl · set_status(task_id: "7f3a…", status: "wont_do")
  9. Done: 3 tasks added to tomorrow, and “Write the RFC for the rate limiter” is marked as won't do.

  • One address, or one command

In Claude or ChatGPT, add a custom connector with https://api.wiseowl.cat/mcp, log in and allow it: it's OAuth, no keys to copy. For Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code, create an access token in your settings and paste one command.

  • It only reaches your tasks

Assistants can read and change tasks and nothing else: not your password, your account or your billing. Tokens expire, and you can revoke one or disconnect an assistant at any time.

  • Every change on the record

Your settings list what each assistant added, rewrote, moved or deleted. Deleting is flagged as destructive, so a well-behaved agent asks you first.

Keyboard first

Your hands never leave the keyboard.

Wise Owl behaves like your editor: type, Enter, next. Move lines with Alt and the arrows, switch boards with Alt and a number, jump to a task with ⌘K, and open the PR linked in a task without reaching for the mouse. Prefer the trackpad? Drag tasks around, on your phone too.

Wise Owl understands GitHub-style checklists. Paste one into a task and every - [ ] becomes a task to do, and every - [x] one that's already done.

Built for how you work

Fast to write down. Honest about what got done.

  • Rolls over on its own

Unfinished tasks move to the next day automatically. Rather see Friday's leftovers on Monday than on Saturday? Tell it to skip weekends.

  • Four states, not two

Done, to do, moved to tomorrow or won't do. Cutting scope is a decision, not a failure, and your list should show it.

  • Bulk changes

Day got away from you? Move every task you didn't get to over to tomorrow in one go, or sort the list with one click.

  • Drag to reorderNew

Priorities changed at standup? Grab a task by its grip and drop it where it belongs; the others slide out of its way. Works with a mouse, a finger, or Alt + ↑/↓.

  • Links that openNew

Paste the PR, the Sentry issue or the runbook into a task: the address becomes a link that opens in a new tab, so each task takes you straight to the work.

  • Dark mode, done rightNew

It follows your system's theme, with every color checked for contrast in light and dark. Easy on the eyes during that late-night incident.

  • Accessible from day one

Every control has a name for screen readers, the focus never gets lost, and axe checks every screen in CI so it stays that way.

  • Private by default

Without an account, your tasks live in your browser's local storage and are never sent to a server. No sign-up, no email, nothing to leak.

  • Laptop and phone, in syncWith an account

Your list follows you from laptop to phone, with a calendar to jump to any day. Changes are queued and retried until the server has them, and the indicator tells you when everything is saved.

Questions

Before you start

Does it replace Jira, Linear or GitHub Issues?

No, it sits next to them. The tracker holds the team's plan; Wise Owl holds your day: the ticket you're on and everything around it that never becomes a ticket.

Can I keep work and personal tasks apart?

Yes, with an account: create up to 10 boards, such as Work, Home or a side project, each with its own days and tasks. Switch with the tabs above the date or with Alt + 1…9. Without an account there's one list.

Which AI assistants can I connect?

Any MCP client. In Claude or ChatGPT, add a custom connector with https://api.wiseowl.cat/mcp, log in and allow it. In Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and other clients, create an access token in your settings and add it with the same address. You need an account: the assistant works with your synced list. Without one, your list never leaves your browser.

What can an assistant see and change?

Only your tasks. It can read your days and boards, search them, and add, edit, move, mark or delete tasks, under the same rules as the app. It can't reach your password, your account or your billing. You can revoke its access whenever you want, and your settings list every change assistants made.

Where are my tasks stored?

Without an account, only in your browser's local storage: they never reach our servers, and clearing the browser's data deletes them. With an account, they're stored on our servers so they can sync between your devices. An AI assistant only sees them if you connect it.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It's a web app: open wiseowl.cat in any modern browser, on your computer or your phone.

Will Wise Owl always be free?

Without an account, yes, forever. With one, every feature is free for now too: Wise Owl is a small independent project, and some day an account may cost €2.49 a month. If that happens, we'll let you know in advance, and you'll never be charged unless you choose to subscribe.

Is it only for engineers?

Anyone with a pile of small things to do can use it. We just built it around how engineers work: keyboard first, Markdown friendly, ready for your AI agent and no ceremony.
